City View Pharmacy's Free Summer Yoga in Astoria Park Begins

Astoria, NY – May 25, 2017 -- City View Pharmacy's "Free Summer Yoga in Astoria Park" will meet Wednesdays at 7pm, from June 7, 2017 through August 30, 2017.

The free yoga program, which was conceived by City View Pharmacy's General Manager Angie Xidias, is now in its sixth year and continues to draw new and returning participants. Ms Xidias, who considers herself a yoga beginner, says, "For me, the best aspect of this program is that it gives anyone the opportunity to try yoga for free and without any commitment or investment other than their time. Everyone is welcome, and all you need to get started is a large towel and the comfortable pants and shirt you already own. Then you follow the instructor's lead. I hope our Neighbors who haven't tried yoga but are curious about it will come out to the park and give it a try. It's very important for our well-being to take some time out of our very hectic lives and find a way to get some downtime in for yourself. Yoga is known to promote overall health and wellness, so that's why we are bringing this experience to our community."

The group meets in Astoria Park, in the grassy area between the RFK Bridge and the pool. (Enter a the parking lot and proceed along the path toward the river and to the right.) All are welcome. Classes are taught by professional yoga instructors from Yoga Agora of Astoria. Class will cancel due to inclement weather, so check for notifications posted on the City View Pharmacy facebook page. Participants should wear comfortable exercise-appropriate clothing and bring a large towel or yoga mat. Participants are asked to sign up prior to class at http://www.cityviewpharmacy.com, by phone at 718-545-2550, or in person at City View Pharmacy at 23-07 Astoria Boulevard in Astoria, NY 11102.

11th Annual "Holiday Toy Drive" Begins at City View Pharmacy

City View Pharmacy will host their 11th Annual Holiday Toy Drive now through December 20, 2016.

All toys donated will benefit The Blue Child Project, founded by a former NYC police officer whose "elves" collect and deliver holiday toys to hospitalized children in New York City at Christmas.

Harry Xidias, Pharmacist/Owner of City View Pharmacy, says the annual toy drive is now a neighborhood tradition and reveals something about the community.

According to Mr. Xidias, "A holiday toy brings happiness to a sick child, but for the family that is struggling to care for them, it means even more. It reminds them that people care, and in this case, complete strangers care and are willing to help. That's not the kind of message we see in the headlines these days, but in communities like ours it's still true, and we're very happy to remind people of that hopeful message during the holiday season."

New, unwrapped toys for children of all ages may be dropped off at City View Pharmacy, 23-07 Astoria Blvd. (between 23rd and Crescent Streets) now through December 20, 2016.

Astoria, NY – December 2, 2015. Now through December 21st, City View Pharmacy will host their 10th Annual Holiday Toy Drive. This year all donated toys will benefit The Blue Child Project, which collects and delivers toys to sick children in New York City hospitals on Christmas.

Harry Xidias, Pharmacist/Owner of City View Pharmacy, says the annual toy drive started small in 2006, and it's hard to believe that ten years have passed.

"As City View Pharmacy looks forward to our 10th anniversary next month, I'm thrilled to say our Holiday Toy Drive has grown along with us. When we heard about The Blue Child Project, we were touched. It was started by a small group of friends who decided to go into hospitals in NYC's poorest neighborhoods and give really sick kids a chance to experience the magic of Christmas on Christmas day. At City View Pharmacy, we know how important it is to put a smile on a patient's face when they're not feeling well, so it feels like a natural fit for us to support the Blue Child Project's misison," Mr. Xidias said.

Astoria, NY – November 2, 2015. City View Pharmacy hosts its 10th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit City Harvest.

Angie Xidias, General Manager of City View Pharmacy said the food drive started small and has grown into a meaningful tradition.

"When we opened City View Pharmacy in January 2006, we were the 'new kids on the block' -- and so thankful just to be here. Later that year, at Thanksgiving time, hosting a small food drive seemed like a nice way to pay it forward. Now, ten years later, our annual food drive has become something of a neighborhood tradition. Before we even set out the boxes, our employees and Neighbors ask when they can bring their canned food in. It's really humbling to see how generous people in our community are," Ms. Xidias said.

"As a health care business, we understand the importance of supporting and reinvesting in the community we serve, so I am very excited to offer this FREE COMMUNITY WELLNESS PROGRAM. It's been an especially long winter -- so our Spring Walking Club can play an important part in getting us back outside and moving again! "When you consider that St. Jude's breakthroughs are shared freely with other medical institutions, you can see how your donation not only save lives here, but continues to save children's lives around the world."

The promotion will run through April 20th and City View Pharmacy will match the first 1,000 "pin-up" dollars collected at the store. All proceeds go directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"8th Annual Holiday Toy Drive" underway at City View Pharmacy

Astoria, NY - December 2, 2013. From now through December 17th, City View Pharmacy will host their 8th Annual Holiday Toy Drive. This year all donated toys will benefit the Family Center of NYC, which provides services to families affected by serious illness, crisis and loss.

To donate, bring a new, unwrapped toy to City View Pharmacy at 23-07 Astoria Blvd. (between 23rd and Crescent Streets).

Harry Xidias, Pharmacist/Owner of City View Pharmacy, says the toy drive started when the pharmacy opened with just a few toys in a cardboard box and has become more successful each year, in spite of recent economic ups and downs.

"Every year we run the toy drive and every year our neighbors generously respond to the call. This year all the toys we collect will benefit the children of the Family Center, many of whom have a family member with HIV or other serious illness. Their family's resources and energy may be drained from managing their health, so bringing the kids happiness through a toy is a very direct way to help them enjoy the holidays," Mr. Xidias said.

New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at City View Pharmacy, 23-07 Astoria Blvd. between 23rd and Crescent Streets or, alternately, online donations may be made through a link at City View Pharmacy's web site, www.cityviewpharmacy.com.

City View Pharmacy Combats Mail Order Trend by Expanding Free Delivery Service to Westchester & Long Island

Astoria, NY Jun. 20, 2013   City View Pharmacy Owner/Supervising Pharmacist, Harry Xidias, said the expansion of City View Pharmacy's service area is one way to combat the insurance business trend requiring chronically ill patients to use a mail away, or "warehouse", pharmacy.

"When patients are battling a chronic disease every day, they don't need to battle their insurance company too, and get their medications from basically a warehouse that has no connection to their treatment. That model just won't work for many patients, especially those with complex conditions like HIV and HCV, " Mr. Xidias said. "These patients need easy and reliable access to their medications, a pharmacist with expertise in a particular disease state AND a pharmacist who gets to know them and wants to work closely with their physician to keep their treatment on track. That's why patients and providers call on City View Pharmacy... and they want to stay with us."

Recently legislation was passed in New York to protect most patients from the warehouse pharmacy trend so that patients may fill prescriptions at brick-and-mortar pharmacies without penalty. But, particularly in cases of prescriptions they label "specialty drugs" for the chronically ill, insurance companies have been slow to inform their members and/or comply with the law. So slow, in fact, that earlier this month New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman got involved by fielding complaints from unhappy patients and contacting insurance companies directly.

"Access to high quality pharmacy care is critical to quality of life, so we're very excited to expand free delivery outside New York City and serve Westchester County and Long Island," Mr. Xidias said. "Patients with chronic conditions need options. Our plan is to keep doing what we do best, putting patients first, and go the extra mile for those who need it most."

Harry Xidias, Pharmacist/Owner of City View Pharmacy, said this year's food drive is especially important, due to Hurricane Sandy. "After seeing the devastation right here in NYC, we're reminded that simply having food to eat and a roof over your head is a blessing. Many of our neighbors have lost everything. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, if you're fortunate enough to have an extra can of food in your pantry, please consider donating it to those who do not," Mr. Xidias said.

The food drive runs through November 21st. Canned food items and other non-perishable foods may be dropped off at City View Pharmacy, 23-07 Astoria Blvd. between 23rd and Crescent Streets.
